As part of the circusnext platform in 2020, Cirkorama hosts pre-selected Swedish artist Hugo Bergman, who is staying in the artistic residency at Pogon Jedinstvo in Zagreb from January 9th to 19th.
Hugo will present his work in progress to the public on January 16 at 7 pm, when the audience will have a chance to talk to the artist about the project.
Admission is free!
Hugo started the project titled “Between me and a hard place” a little over a year ago, as part of the Artistic Development program held at the DOCH in Stockholm, where he explored the use of facilities in combination with a cyr wheel and reaches 25-minute collage-shaped performance material. This is where the idea of the full-length show is born, and the Zagreb’s residency is the first to serve him in this direction.
The focus of the project is three bodies: an artist, a cyr wheel and a head-sized stone. This minimalist setup for the artist represents the art of circus but at the same time the biggest challenge. “In the circus, we are used to using one idea that we manipulate with to an infinite number of versions. The challenge is to keep the material interesting throughout the whole show «
The artist’s vision is to push the boundaries by motivating the circus technique, using / finding, and exploring everything we can use the circus for (much more than just a performance that looks impressive). He wants to bring a sensation of nature into performance in terms of the use of materials around us – in his case, it is a stone. Hugo invites audiences into a naked, raw, cold and timeless world, reminiscent of the Nordic countries he comes from.
As part of this residency, Hugo will work with Einar Christoffersson, who will assist him as a co-creator, art consultant and technician.
Technical support: Jasmin Dasović
Due to limited space, reservations are required at: email@example.com
In addition to the public presentation, local artists will also have the opportunity to get to know Hugo through the workshops on January 17 and 18, which will be anounced soon.
